Hi there!

Thank you for stopping by to check out my art and find out what I'm all about. I'll keep it brief! For starters, I absolutely love my life as an artist as it allows me to fully explore and activate my need for creative expression. My artwork aligns with my imagination and reflects what I am inspired to create. Art has been a life-long passion for me. Throughout childhood I was drawn to all the arts, which found expression in different ways, my teen years being obsessed with dance and music. Since early adulthood, I have engaged in many art courses whenever time permitted. My dedication to art throughout adulthood has provided an opportunity to further develop my skills as an artist. My recent journey as a Mastery Program student through the Milan Art Institute has taken my skills to a new level. My newly acquired voice and style as an artist aims to celebrate all things of nature, while promoting spiritual connectedness through light and colour. I also aim to raise awareness of the need for more feminine presence, participation and recognition in the world. Womanhood, while historically has gone underestimated, is to be celebrated as a testimony of strength and capability in many wonderful ways from nurturing the children of our future to providing intuitive wisdom and demonstrating excellent leadership skills. I welcome you to follow me in my journey!

About Wendy

Wendy Joy Britten (Nix) was born and raised in the Fremantle region of Western Australia. As a child, she was passionate about art in every sense of the word. She loved music, writing, dancing and anything with a creative edge, including drawing and painting... of course! Her creative nature directed her in choosing her first career as a hairdresser, which she loved and enjoyed for many years. It was a fulfilment of her childhood dream that never wavered. This determination was the beginning of a pattern that moved her onto other career paths, the next as a clinical psychologist and eventually fulfilling her dream to become a professional artist!

From early adulthood, Wendy had an unquenchable desire to increase her educational opportunities. Subsequently, she combined her love of learning with her love of art and began her journey with a passion mainly for oil painting. This strong passion continued through the following years as she got to work at her easel at any given opportunity. Some years later, she attended the Claremont Art School on weekends over a period of four years, which helped further develop her skills in oil painting, sketching, portraiture and still life. When the school closed down she continued taking classes in acrylics and exploring abstract art before joining the Mastery Program with the Milan Art Institute.

"When the light comes in the darkness has to go!"

With a background in clinical psychology, Wendy's approach and choice of subject matter is greatly influenced. Her drive and passion for wanting to bring more light into the world, alleviating emotional pain and emphasising joy, peace and well-being with a spiritual infusion is reflected in her artwork. She found herself often saying to people; “When the light comes in the darkness had to go!” as a metaphor to emphasise the need for illuminating what needs to come to the light in order to heal, bringing relief from emotional pain. A constant throughout her life, art has become a vehicle for Wendy to continue promoting light and positivity, gently bringing healing into her work and influencing her life and also the lives of others.

Many artists believe art has intrinsic value and has the ability to enhance well-being. Wendy agrees wholeheartedly with this concept and believes both the artist and the collector benefit. Original art in particular provides joy and happiness to the artist who created it as well as the collector who appreciated it enough to want it in their home every day. She believes in the power of original art and how it can transport the insightful viewer into a space that generates a deep sense of wonder, calm and well-being. While Wendy enjoys including mixed media into her artwork, her main passion is for oil painting. She will often move into a zone of tranquility while painting and will frequently see various shapes and features emerging as beautiful unintended surprises. She loves those moments when others also see those treasures.

Wendy works diligently in her home studio most week days. She lives with her husband and enjoys spending time with him walking on the beach or around their beautiful leafy neighbourhood adorned with ancient native trees and established deciduous trees that provide vibrant colours with seasonal changes. Her main goal for her art moving forward is to emphasise light and positivity into her creations and promote feminine energy to bring more balance into the world. Wendy has a strong awareness of the need for women to be recognised as powerful influencers in the world and celebrates womanhood. She aims to also reflect this in her artwork.
